Annual School Events

Maths Week

Every October the school takes part in Maths Week. We encourage the children to use their ‘Maths Eyes’ and find maths in everyday life. There are a host of activities, puzzles, games and trails for everyone to get involved in.

Halloween Dress Up

On the Friday before the Halloween Mid-Term break we always get in the spooky spirit and the whole school dresses up and takes part in fun, games and costume parades. We encourage our children to try their hand at homemade costume design and every year we are blown away by the standard and the creativity of our brilliant pupils and parents.

Christmas

Christmas is a special time of year in Scoil Chaitríona. We have lots of celebrations to mark this special time of year and the end of Term I. Every class prepare a festive performance for the school and their families. The senior children go carolling and the Afternoon Club host the Christmas Fair and sell homemade items in order to raise funds for selected charities for those that are less fortunate than us. The Parents’ Council help us organise a visit from the main man, Santa Claus.

Science Week

Science Week is a week-long event each November, celebrating science in our everyday lives. Pupils and staff explore a range of experiments, ask questions about our environment and learn about amazing discoveries made by scientists and inventors.

Friendship Month

Every February we celebrate friendship in our school. In conjunction with our Anti Bullying and Wellbeing policies we want our students to learn the importance friendship plays in all our lives and how to be a caring, supportive and amazing friend to all those in our school community.

Seachtain na Gaeilge

Seachtain na Gaeilge is celebrated every year in March. Everyone tries their best to speak a little more Gaeilge than usual throughout the day. Fun Gaeilge activities are organised by teachers for the children to enjoy. Our ‘Lá Glas’ show usually takes place during this week too. We have a céilí in the halla and the children perform a song and poem for the whole school as Gaeilge.

Healthy Body Healthy Mind Week

Here in Scoil Chaitríona we value learning and recognise that children learn best when they are healthy and happy. Throughout the year and in our dedicated week we explore how healthy bodies and healthy minds are achieved by healthy eating, exercising regularly and developing a sense of well-being, confidence and self-esteem.

Sports Day

Sports Day takes place in Merrion Square every year. Children spend the day enjoying sporting activities and races with their peers and families.

School Tours

We are blessed with our location in the heart of Dublin City, so we can walk to so many amazing facilities, museums and galleries.  We want our environment to play a role in our education. There are many opportunities for the children to attend educational and sporting events outside of the school building, during school times. All classes go on at least one school tour per school year.

Prize Giving

At the end of year in June we celebrate all our achievements in the school. We want to reward all the efforts of our pupils and have a ceremony dedicated to rewarding the children in a host of different categories. Pupil of the year, Gaeilgeoir of the year, Independent Student of the year, Attendance Awards, Artist of the year, Gardeners, Sport Stars and the Spirit of Scoil Chaitríona are some of the awards on offer.

Our 6th Class Graduation is after our Prize Giving Ceremony where our outgoing pupils perform, sing and act and look back on their time in our school with their families and the staff.
